Splendid September is Here!! So, of course it’s the “We Wish We Were Going Back to School Edition!!”

Whether or not you have kiddos going Back to School - September brings on all the Nostalgic Studious Vibes of New Books, Computers, Notebooks and of course, Organized Desk Vibes!

Offices are typically one of the most difficult rooms for homeowners to prepare before selling their homes. On a daily basis, it is actually one of the least thought about spaces for straightening up - much less organizing. Once the day’s work is done, the desire to close out work related tasks and move onto Summer fun or relaxing has just been too tempting.

Bookshelves, Cabinets and Drawers often quickly become catch alls and become cluttered and out of control. Now that’s a Productivity and Presentation Killer!

Offices are one of the first rooms that I recommend for Sellers to begin tackling, when they really want the declutter process to be less stressful. Weeks to months ahead of selling your home is the best time frame for digging into important (and not so important) paperwork and other items that have accumulated over the years.

August is Awesome! Do You Know Why?Because it’s the perfect month to plan, schedule and tackle all of those indoor projects that you don’t want to be stuck doing when you could be enjoying the great outdoors during Splendid September!

You have four whole weekends in August to sprinkle a bunch of little projects, a couple of medium sized projects or one big beautiful redo - but trust me, if it’s not on your calendar - it’s probably not going to happen…

The days during the month of August are typically referred to as the “Dog Days of Summer” - when temperatures and humidity soar and storms are abundant. So if you find yourself staying indoors more during August then you did in June or July, make great use of that time to accomplish interior tasks before Fall landscaping, garage clean up, window/pressure washing and exterior painting need to be completed.

September through November provide some of the most enjoyable weather for outdoor activities, so why not set yourself up for complete enjoyment of your time, knowing that your interior is under control, completely organized and your plans have come to fruition!!

Entryways and Mudrooms take a beating all year long, so it’s probably time to regroup after all the Summer activities have left a trail of “souvenirs” in your path. Starting Autumn off with a cleared out Mudroom will help keep the daily essentials clutter contained on one spot!

Exercise and Yoga Rooms can become just a closet full of everybody else’s stuff - especially when the kiddos are still on Summer Vacay! So when summer outdoor activities and vacations wind down and you want to get back to your exercise space make sure it is set up for your success!

The same is true for your Home Office Space/Study Space. If it hasn’t been invaded by your kiddos, then you’ve probably been too busy having all the Summer Fun to keep it in great order - now is the time to get on that!

Seriously Important Tuesday Tweak Today!!!

Daylight Saving Time Begins at 2:00am on Sunday, March 12th and It Could Save Your Life!!

The beginning and ending dates for Daylight Saving Time are great days to remember to check the batteries and functionality of your Smoke Detectors - and not just one or two of them - ALL OF THEM!!

Batteries should be replaced every six months. And, if any of your Smoke Detectors are 10 Years old or older - REPLACE THEM!! Do not just test them! Carbon Monoxide Detectors need to be checked for functionality as well and should be replaced every five years.

Smoke detectors are one of the first things that I look at in homes when I am conducting a Staging Consultation. They are a great indicator as to whether a detailed maintenance plan has been established for that particular home.

IF THEY LOOK YELLOW - THEY MUST GO!!

It is such an important maintenance item that it has always been included in my Get STAGED ENVY® Checklist. You Cannot Stage Safety - But You Can Stage a Practice Emergency Escape Plan!

Interior updates are not the only refreshing that you need to accomplish prior to putting your home on the market to sell. This is especially true if you are planning to list your home for sale this coming Spring or Summer.

Tree and shrub trimming need to be at the top of your Exterior Excellence List! Both are essential and one needs to be addressed sooner than later. It is best to trim certain types of trees during Winter months before buds begin to pop during pre-Spring. It is also wise to have your larger trees inspected by a certified arborist. This can help ensure that damaging winds in the coming months don’t result in damage to your home.

Every aspect of your home needs to have buyers wanting to offer as much as they possibly can - because they just have to have your house! it all starts with your professional photos online - and that includes photos of the exterior of your home too!

I can’t stress enough how too much is too much when it comes to overgrown trees and shrubbery in front of a home! If you are listing your home for sale during Spring or Summer months of 2023, it is imperative that your home be visible! If you can’t see it, you can’t sell it - for what you want to get!!

Today’s Terrific Tuesday Tip is Very Insightful for Both Listing or Living…

It’s hard to believe, but we are only one month down in Winter! That’s right - we have eight more long weeks of potentially dim days and early evening darkness…Ugghh!!!

Last week we had several dark and gray days that were sooo dreary, I found myself turning almost every light in my home on by three o’clock in the afternoon! Don’t even get me started on how important the right lighting is for the interior of your home!!

I crave lots of light, so for me, Winter is the perfect time to assess lighting in all of the rooms in my home and in my clients homes. Clean, functioning, refreshed and updated light fixtures transform a space and create an ambiance and atmosphere - whether by your design or not!

Rays of light are so very important for your functionality and your mood too!! Trust me, the right lighting fixtures and lightbulbs can level up your Décor and Style and change the entire overall look and vibe of any room!

Seriously, I talk about this subject with homeowners almost every single day and choosing the right bulbs, fixtures and shades can affect not only the ambience, color and livability of your spaces, but it can also affect your mood!

I don’t want you to fall into a Winter funk, so I have a truly bright idea! Even if you are not planning on updating all or any of your fixtures, go room by room to check bulbs and clean every part of all of your light fixtures - that includes not only installed fixtures but table and floor lamps too!

First, let’s start with how you pronounce Zhuzh and Zhuzhing. It sounds like if you added a z at the end of the word push - puszh - Zhuzh Or Zhuzhing!! They are actually really fun words to say!

So what does Zhuzh mean? Well at STAGED ENVY® - Zhuzhing is the last bit of Magic (after a previous Staging Consultation of course) that happens right before professional pics! 2023 Will Be My Year to Bring You Terrific Tuesday Tips - Especially if You are Planning to Sell Your Home in 2024!! Trust Me - You Need a Plan!!

Today’s Tip is Terrific because it’s the perfect way to get the year started if you have been dreaming and wishing about refreshing or updating your home, either to enjoy yourself or to appeal to buyers when you sell.

Either way - you need a plan and most probably assistance. Refreshing for yourself or refreshing for selling require two totally different approaches!! Laying out your Order of Operations is the most important part of the process and requires conversation about your budget, goals and timeline. 

Twelve months is a great timeframe if you have multiple projects to accomplish and you don’t want major impact everywhere on your home - all at the same time. There will always be changes or hiccups along the way, so we need to plan for that possibility - life does happen!

With a well thought out approach and strategy for each project you want or need to accomplish, you will be prepared and ready to pivot if necessary. Bonus, you will already have your mind wrapped around how refreshing might impact your daily living and have solutions for handling it best!!

Daylight Saving Time Could Save Your Life -
Now Is The Time To Check Your Smoke Detectors!
(Daylight Saving Time Begins at 2am this Sunday, March 13th)

The beginning and ending dates for Daylight Saving Time are great days to remember to check the batteries and functionality of your Smoke Detectors - and not just one or two of them - all of them! Batteries should be replaced every six months. And, if any of your Smoke Detectors are 10 Years old or older replace them, do not just test them.
Carbon Monoxide Detectors need to be checked for functionality as well and should be replaced every five years.

Smoke detectors are one of the first things that I look at in homes when I am conducting a Staging Consultation. They are a great indicator to me as to whether a detailed maintenance plan has been established for that particular home. If they appear yellow - they must go!! It is such an important maintenance item that it has always been included in my Get STAGED ENVY® Checklist.

You Cannot Stage Safety - But You Can Stage a Practice Emergency Escape Plan! If your escape plan includes exiting through any windows or doors you rarely if ever use - then check those as well!!
